Tens of Orangutans to be Set Free
Selasa, 25 November 2014 10:42 WIB
TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) is planning to release 26 orangutans to its original habitation in 2015.
“We hope so. There are 20 individuals that are ready to be released on April or May, and the other six in the mid year,” said veterinarian Agus Irwanto, the Manager of Samboja Lestari Rehabilitation Land.
Agus’ team is now preparing the release plan and collecting more supports, especially financial supports. According to Agus, not less than Rp4 billion is needed for one release.
The release location is planned to be on the Kehje Sewen forest in Muara Wahau, East Kutai Regency. The forest is 500 km away from Balikpapan which used to be a production forest but now it is managed by Indonesian Orangutan Habitation Rehabilitation (RHOI).
