Ahok Says No to Party-affiliated Deputy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – After Basuki Purnama Tjahaja a.k.a. Ahok was inaugurated as Jakarta governor, the focus now shifts to the deputy governor still vacant position. Ahok said he is still waiting for a government regulation (PP) on the procedures for proposing a deputy, saying he has 15 days to submit names while waiting for the ryule to be signed by President Joko Widodo.
Referring to government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) No. 1/2004 on the election of governors, regents and mayors, a governor is allowed to propose candidates to the City Council. Ahok said he wants a deputy who can work right away without taking too much time to adapt.
"One thing for sure, I don't want a celebrity [as my deputy], " he said after the inauguration at the Presidential Palace yesterday.
When asked about the possibility of having a deputy from political parties Ahok refused firmly said no.
Meanwhile, PDIP deputy secretary general Hasto Kristiyanto claimed his party is preparing the best candidates to be Ahok's first mate.
