Ten Indonesian Climbers Survive Himalayan Storm

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ten Indonesian mountain climbers have survived the rough storm in Himalaya on Tuesday, October 14. Nizar Suhendra, a senior climber, is one of the survivors.


“I did not expect to face storm in Himalaya. It was my first time,” saud Nizar to Tempo on Friday.


The storm in the world’s highest mountain range has recorded 38 victims. Most of the victims were buried in the landslide during the storm. The severity of the storm had caused Nepal government closed the climbing track until it was safe.


Nizar and and his team were climbing the mountain near Annapurna Circuit on October 4. They had reached the High Camp which is 5,300 meters above the sea level, before the the storm hit and forced them to go down to base camp at the 4,600-meter height.


Nizar said that they survived because they had good preparation before the climb. The other Indonesian survivors are : Ade Rahmat, Agung Sutiastoro, Ari Nugroho, Adi Seno, Manogari Siahaan, Agus Radjani, Gabriel Tri, Paido Panggabean, and Unggul Rahadjo.
