TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former Transition Team deputy Anies Baswedan came Friday morning to Merdeka Palace as he was summoned by President Joko Widodo.

“I am summoned today, but I haven’t been told what’s the meeting about,” said Anies on Friday.

Anies said his visit to Merdeka Palace was the first after the presidential inauguration on October 20.

Even though he has never been summoned to the palace after Jokowi's inauguration, Anies said he had been phoned by Jokowi a few times. Anies, however, said he had never discussed the possibilities of his becoming a minister for Jokowi. “I don’t know about that,” said Anies.

Rumors are rife that Anies will spearhead the country's education sector in Jokowi's ministerial cabinet, meaning that he may become the High Education and Research and Technology Minister or Basic and Middle Education Minister.

So far, Jokowi has welcomed three guests: Transition Team head Rini Soermarno and former Transition Team deputies Andi Widjajanto and Anies Baswedan.
