TEMPO.CO, Mukomuko – The Mukomuko regency administration of Bengkulu province will present the Niqhung dance—also known as the Tampi dance—at Tabot Festival in the province that is slated to kick off on October 24, 2014.

“We present the Niqhung dance at Tabot Festival,” the regency’s chief of Education and Culture Agency, Yulia, said on Thursday, October 23, 2014.

Yulia said the Niqhung dance performance would be one of the creative competitions for students in the category of new dance creation at the event.

Yulia added seven students from the regency’s top high schools would be selected to perform the dance at Tabot Festival. “The seven persons are high school students who are creative in performing the Niqhung dance,” Yulia said.

The Niqhung dance is inspired by the life of people in Mukomuko regency, where farmers always carry bakul (traditional bamboo basket) and niqhung (winnowing baskets) during rice harvests.

Yulia explained the dance sought to highlight the cooperativeness and togetherness of people in the regency in the harvest season.
