TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto hoped the new government under the leadership of Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla would bring about improvements for Indonesia.
“I hope everything will become better,” Prabowo told Tempo on Monday after attending Jokowi’s inauguration at the People's Consultative Assembly plenary meeting room on Monday.
Prabowo hoped Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla would be able to realize the promises that Jokowi made in his first presidential speech.
Prabowo declined to comment as to the political stance that his party and its coalition would take in the parliament towards the Jokowi administration.
Gerindra Party deputy chairman Fadli Zon said Gerindra would still be a balancer in the country's government. “We will support [policy] as long as it is good for the people,” said Fadli.
After Jokowi’s swearing-in ceremony, Prabowo and a number of officials from the Red and White coalition left the meeting room. They went to House of Representatives boardroom albeit the inauguration ceremony was still afoot.
