TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo met the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) speaker, the House of Representative (DPR) speaker and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) speaker for the first time. After the meeting, Jokowi said the parliament will not challenge his inauguration as the president of the Republic of Indonesia.
“No more questions about tackles or challenges [related to presidential inauguration],” Jokowi told journalists at a press conference on Friday, October 10, 2014.
Before the press conference, Jokowi was having a closed meeting with the MPR speaker Zulkifli Hasan, the DPR speaker Setya Novanto and the DPD speaker Irman Gusman.
“The three [MPR, DPR and DPD] speakers are very supportive in what will the government do in the future,” Jokowi said.
Jokowi also called on public not to doubt the relationship between the government and the parliament dominated by Prabowo’s coalition.
“I can assure you that the government and the DPR are on the same page. No problem with the MPR and with the DPD,” he said.
Jokowi also revealed that MPR speaker Zulkifli Hasan, along with his deputies, will visit Jokowi’s official residence to prepare the inauguration on October 20.
