TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) has opened a new headquarter in the capital city of Ghana, Accra, on Monday, September 29, 2014, to coordinate international aids for west African countries affected by Ebola virus.

Christy Feig, director of communications for the World Health Organization (WHO), said on Monday UNMEER is now tasked with figuring out where the greatest needs are and making sure aids gets there safely.

Inadequate assistance and lack of awareness among the people have caused the virus outbreak to escalate. Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea are among countries with most severe conditions due to inadequate medical facilities and equipment.

Despite promises of aid from a number of developed countries, UNMEER still has to ensure that the aid will not miss the target. Nimba County in Libera, for instance, has only one ambulance and it is often broken down. In addition, the number medical officers in the area are inadequate.
