TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The General Elections Commission (KPU) has sent two letters to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyno on the proposed delay and cancellation of inauguration of seven elected House lawmakers involved in corruption cases.

“We sent a list of corruption suspects to the president,” Arief Budiman, a member of KPU, told Tempo on Monday. “Whether their inauguration will be canceled or not, it’s the president’s prerogative. The KPU’s job is to send the list of all elected lawmakers.”

The KPU also sent a list of deceased and unqualified elected lawmakers. Arief said the KPU was now waiting for the president's decision on the matter. “The KPU’s job is finished,” he said, adding that a decision could hopefully be made before October 1 or the inauguration of the lawmakers by the KPU.

Based on the information received by Tempo from the KPU’s technical bureau, the first letter to President SBY was sent through the state secretariat on September 17. In the letter, the KPU proposed the postponement of Jero Wacik, Idham Samwai and Hardian Koosnadi.

The second letter, meanwhile, was sent several days ago containing suggestions to delay the inauguration of four elected lawmakers—Iqbal Wibisono, Jimmy Demianus Ijie, Zulkarnain Karim and Chaidir Djafar—for law violations.
