TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Regional Environmental Management Agency (BPLHD) of Bekasi is going to file lawsuit against South Korean car manufacturer, Hyundai, for environment pollution worth Rp16 billion. The company that is located in Lippo Cikarang industrial area does not hold industrial waste treatment permit.
Head of Bekasi BPLHD, M.A. Supratman said that the Rp16-billion claim is based on recommendation by the ecosystem damages assessment done by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment on the company. He said that lawsuits are prepared for both criminal law and civil law.
Supratman also revealed that Bekasi local government had previously negotiated on the amount of compensation but there both parties failed to agree. “We have closed the door for negotiations with PT Hyundai and we will make sure [the case] solved at the court,” Supratman added.
