TEMPO.CO, Semarang - Tjahjo Kumolo, secretary general of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), said he was happy to see Prabowo Subianto get elected as the chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) at the extraordinary congress.

"I, as PDI-P secretary general, congratulate [Prabowo] as the new Gerindra Party chairman," Tjahjo Kumolo said last night on the sidelines of PDI-P national work meeting in Semarang.

Prabowo was elected as chairman of Gerindra Parto to succeed Suhardi, who passed away on August 28, 2014. Tjahjo claimed that the relationship between the PDI-P and Gerindra Party is going well, adding there was no problem between both parties.

The PDI-P even called Gerindra Party as a partner, given the fact that both parties joined in a coalition in 2009 presidential election. Tjahjo called on Prabowo and Gerindra to build the nation together. Tjahjo said Prabowo’s figure resembles the first Indonesian President Sukarno.

The rivalry between the two parties in the last presidential election was only related to the presidential candidate promotion, he said, since it is impossible for a party to promote two presidential candidates.
