TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Welcome, to the Lady Alice Tea Room. As the name implies, “Lady Alice Tea Room” brought up a very “girly” atmosphere into its stall. The blue color used here refers to the color of gown that is worn by Alice in the 'Alice in Wonderland' movie.
Almost all of the wares such as table sheeting, vase, and even umbrellas are all colored in light blue. Nicely combined with white sofa and chairs, the stall looked more girly due to the presence of a park with colorful, but unfortunately plastic, flowers. It is located in the alley of the 2nd floor Gandaria City, South Jakarta.
Lady Alice Tea Room presents the concept of never-ending tea party, just like March Hare and the Mad Hatter in the Wonderland. The tea shop also serves various filling eateries that would make people stay there longer. The tea shop is the second outlet of Lady Alice in addition to other outlet in Benton Junction, Karawaci.
My first order was tea at the time.
“Lady Alice Tea is our signature,” said the waitress Ita to Tempo.
Then, I ordered the recommended tea for Rp28,000 per pot. Around 15 minutes later, the aroma of roses pervaded from the white teapot. It was aromatic, but the taste of golden tea was not too special.
Just like the English nobles afternoon tea time, the tea was not complete without the addition of light snack. I chose macaron – a biscuit made from hazelnut powder covered with jam - as the companion. My choice turned up right. The macaron colored in magenta (raspberry flavor) and beige (caramel flavor) that I had ordered gave me juts right sweetness level. And so did the Green tea Cake.
Despite the too-dry texture for their chiffon cake, “Lady Alice” was quite wise in measuring the sugar for their cakes, in this case they won’t make The Mad Hatter growl for swallowing too much sugar.
Lady Alice also offers special menu of Chimnet Cake originated from Hungary. The cake is a rolled cake layered with caramel or sugar plus cinnamon.
The heavy meal offered by the tea shop includes Omu Rice and Wonderland Fried Rice. The latter is fried rice with smoked beef plus scrambled egg. The flavor did not succeed in bringing me to join Alice in Wonderland since it taste like regular savory of egg, margarine, and very little pepper.
If you are on carbohydrate diet and avoid eating rice, you could try on their Wagyu Steak or Tenderloin Steak. There are also choices of pasta.
Looking at the long list of menu, to be called a ‘restaurant’ will likely to suit better than the ‘tea room’ concept. Maybe Lady Alice need some suggestions from March Hare and The Mad Hatter to pop up more surprises in the tea room.
