TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, a member of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party’s Advisory Council, said the party would lodge a judicial review with the Constitutional Court on Thursday afternoon, September 18, 2014 on Article 29 Verse 2c of Law No. 32/2004 on Regional Administration.
Through his attorney, Habiburokhman, he said the party wanted the article to be inserted with the sentence, “Regional heads/deputy regional heads should be dismissed from their offices should their nomination recommendation be revoked by their supporting parties.”
He added that the judicial review was part of the party’s efforts to prevent comments from “people like Ahok from recurring.”
Earlier, Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama resigned from the party as he was opposing the regional election bill backed by Gerindra-led Red and White Coalition, which sought to scrub direct regional elections.
Habiburokhman said Ahok made a statement that the latter's being elected as Jakarta deputy governor was thanks to Jokowi as opposed to Gerindra. “Don’t forget that we also have our constituents. We have to answer to our constituents,” he said on Wednesday, September 17, 2014.
