TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has signed a cooperation agreement on exchange of tax information with Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. The cooperation was signed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) through three regulations on September 1.
Wahyu Tumakaka, director of training, service and public relations at the directorate general of taxes, said the agreement was initiated by G-20 countries and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
"That has been the agreement of G20 countries since 2000 in order to make the taxation information between countries more open," Wahyu said yesterday.
Some countries are willing to open taxation information access so that they are labelled as tax-haven countries for tax evaders. If those countries want to open no access, it would affect the decline of information transparency rating issued by OECD.
Wahyu said the signing of the agreement indicates that Indonesia is not a tax haven for tax evaders. "Indonesia is concerned about transparency in taxation information."
