TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Although the Guinness World of Record has yet to announce, the organizer of the angklung ensemble in Adelaide believe they had broken the world record for the largest Angklung ensemble. As many as 6,100 people played the bamboo music instrument Angklung (Sundanese traditional music instrument) together at the Royal Adelaide Show on Saturday night.

They performed two songs, 'Waltzing Mathilda' and 'Happy Birthday To You' for five minutes. The previous world record was 5,185 people playing Angklung in the Washington DC in 2011.

“Unofficially, we have made new record since the one in Washington DC was done by 5,182 people. However, time is still needed for the counting and validating by the Guinness World of Record (GWR),” said Ferry Chandra the chief of Adelindo Angklung to ABC on Sunday.

Adelindo Angklung is a community founded and led by Ferry Chandra to promote the West Javan traditional music instrument to society in Adelaide.

In the record breaking attempt, Ferry claimed that the participant did not do prior practices. Not only Indonesians who live in Adelaide, local residents were also participated in the attempt.
