TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto has said that the construction of two stretches of the Trans-Sumatra tollway, the Palembang-Indralaya section and the Medan-Binjai section, will commence in November 2014.
"The projects will be launched at the same time as the groundbreaking for the Medan-Kualanamu-Tebingtinggi toll road," said Djoko at the Public Works Ministry on Friday, September 12, 2014.
The decision to launch the Trans-Sumatra toll road came after a closed cabinet meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday, September 11, 2014.
According to Djoko, the projects will be launched despite the fact that the land acquisition process has not been fully completed. Djoko pointed out that the problematic areas are owned by a number of state-owned companies, but the land acquisition process is still ongoing and is expected to finish in the near future.
Djoko said that state-owned construction company Hutama Karya was chosen because no other companies participated in the tender. "As such, we gave the project to Hutama Karya,"explained Djoko.
