TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Solar power project in Indonesia was claimed to be hampered by infrastructure problem. Budi Darmadi, Director General for High-Technology Industries at the Ministry of Industry, said that production of solar cells for the project was stalled because of a lack in electricity. "The factory doesn't [have enough] electricity supply," he said on Monday, September 1, 2014.
According to Budi, there are several investors that are interested in building solar cell factories in Indonesia, one of which was planning to build the factory in North Sumatera. However, the plan was cancelled because North Sumatera is still experiencing power shortage.
Budi said that investors will make solar cells by processing refined silica sand. However, in order to process and melt silica sand, a factory needs large supplies of electricity.
