NATO Reinforces Its Eastern Front
Jumat, 19 Oktober 2018 19:21 WIB
TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) plans to establish five military bases in Eastern Europe. German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung wrote on Sunday that there will be 4,000 military personnel stationed in those bases. In response to NATO’s measure, Russia stated that NATO expansion will threaten European Atlantic stability and that it will take action.
NATO took considered the measure necessary in order to protect the alliance from Russian threats, particularly after Russian invasion in Ukraine. Moreover, Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that the alliance plans to mobilize its troops in the Eastern Europe front.
NATO’s movement to the Eastern Europe began after Crimean unification with Russia, back in March. The alliance has increased its presence in Russian border, specifically sending warships to the Black Sea and increasing aerial patrol in Baltic nations.
