TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II deputy chief from the Democrat Party, Khatibu Umam Wiranu, said the Democrat Party remained with the Merah Putih Coalition.

"This is based on Democrat Party Plenary Meeting on Monday, August 24, at the Democrat Party Central Board office," Umam told Tempo yesterday.

The meeting yielded three results. First, Democrat Party acts as a balancer. Second, Democrat Party still remains in the Merah Putih Coalition. Third, regarding internal consolidation, the Democrat Party will hold Regional Consensus.

Umam said the plenary meeting was attended by the party’s executive chairman Sjarifudding Hasan and secretary general Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono. Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was present at the meeting before going to Papua and Bali for his presidential duties.

"This also denies claims from members of the Indonesian Democratic Party fo Struggle (PDI-P) that the Democrat Party wants ministerial positions," said Umam. "It’s not true at all."
