Police Confiscate Tens of Hedgehogs

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Members of Langkat Police Resort Office (Polres), North Sumatra, confiscated 55 hedgehogs from a truck that was about to transport the animals from Aceh to Medan for illegal trading. The police have also arrested three people who transported the illegal hedgehogs.
According to Ipda Rudi Sahputra, the Head of Economy Unit of Polres Langkat said on Friday that the police spotted suspicious truck passing on the Trans-Sumatra Road in Sei Karang Desa Sub-village. The police then stopped the truck and found 55 hedgehogs.
In a separate occasion, the Head of Natural Resource Conservation Unit Region II, Herber Aritonang, said that the hedgehogs are protected animals and not allowed to be traded.
“The animal is protected according to the Government Regulation No. 7/199,” Herber said.
