TEMPO.CO, Manchester - In addition to his strategy of signing new players for Manchester United, Louis Van Gaal planned on selling some of his players on this summer transfer window. The first to leave was Luis Nani who was swapped for Sporting Lisbon’s backfield player Marcos Rojo. Danny Welbeck, Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverley are currently on the list for sale.
The 23-year-old Welbeck started the majority of the club's pre-season tour of the United States, but he is unlikely to beat Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in the pecking order.
"Danny has an astonishing strike rate for United and he has now reached a stage where he deserves to be playing first-team football or else his England career will suffer as well," Van Gaal said to Evening Standard.
"United are happy to let him go but would prefer it was to a club that won’t be fighting for a Champions League place by the end of the season," said Van Gaal to Evening Standard.
Hull has put their bid on Wellbeck but it did not work out since Welbeck refused to move to the club. Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur, and recently Arsenal, are reported to eye the English striker.
Standard Sport revealed that Van Gaal is ready to ditch Cleverley and Kagawa, both of whom are unlikely to play a part under the Dutchman. Van Gaal has already said his team was too heavily stocked with No. 10's.
