Atletico Madrid players celebrate their success in winning the Spanish Super Cup after beating Real Madrid 1-0 (2-1 on aggregate) in the second leg at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, Madrid, August 23, 2014 AP/Andres Kudacki

TEMPO.CO, Madrid - Atletico Madrid have started the 2014/2015 season gloriously after winning the second leg of Madrid derby against Real Madrid 1-0 earlier today at Vicente Calderon. Atletico bring home the Spanish Super Cup trophy with 2-1 score on aggregate.

Los Blancos put on pressure since the kick start as Raul Garcia threatened Real's goal post at the first minute. Raul’s attack failed but Mario Mandzukic scored the opener for Atletico only at the second minute.

Real Madrid created a chance through newly-joined James Rodriguez at the 25th but Moya successfully saved his net. Coach Carlo Ancelotti sent in Cristiano Ronaldo at the second half to boost attack. Unfortunately, Luka Modric was awarded a second yellow card in the late minute and left Los Blancos to struggle with only 10 men.

In the end, Real failed to score an equalizer until the final whistle and Atletico celebrated their first trophy this season. The victory was Atletico's first at home against Real in 15 years and continued Simeone's amazing run of success since taking charge of the club just less than three years.
