TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has won “The Best Governmental Figure” award at the 5th annual Soegeng Sarjadi School of Government and the Commemoration of the 69th Constitution Day held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.

Jokowi defeated the other two nominees: President Yudhoyono and Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini.

Jokowi began his speech on the stage by asking the audience to take a moment of silence to pay tribute to national heroes. “Let’s take a moment of silence to recognize the services rendered by our national heroes, particularly Bung Karno and Bung Hatta,” he said.

In his speech, Jokowi highlighted the nation’s present conditions and problems, saying that he planned on implementing the Jokowi-JK’s nine frameworks to attend the issues.

“We will adopt the Trisakti ways, which encompass political sovereignty, economic independence, and a cultural identity,” Jokowi said, adding that the development of human characters played a paramount role to bring them to fruition.

“Because the people must have a clear identity, that these are the people of Indonesia, that’s what has been missing,” he said.
