TEMPO.CO, Buenos Aires - Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella will not be extending his contract that will be over this upcoming September, Argentine media reported on Tuesday.

AFA offered to extend the sign, but according to the pages of La Nacion, the 59-year-old coach told Julio Grondona (AFA’s President) that he was standing down, AFP reported.

He took charge after Sergio Batista, after Argentina performed poorly in the Copa America in it’s own country in 2011.

AFA spokesman refused to comment on the matter, so Sabella is scheduled to do a press conference in their headquaters in Ezeiza, close to Buenos Aires, on 1900 GMT, Wednesday.

Two days before the World Cup final, Sabella’s agent said that Sabella would not be extending the contract, whereas the coach said he would be making the decision after the Brazil tournament.

Local media have mentioned several potential names to replace the coach, among them Gerardo Martino, former Barcelona coach; coach Jose Pekerman; and Diego Simeone, Atletico Mardrid coach.
