TEMPO.CO, Beijing - Xiaomi Vice President Hugo Barra admitted the making of the company's smartphone product Mi4 was inspired by Apple's talented designers. However, he denied the accusation of copying the design of Apple’s iPhone on Xiaomi’s Mi4.
Barra passionately argued that instead of trying to design around a product, it is actually a much better idea to improve the design.
In an interview reported on The Next Web, the former Google’s Vice President said people were making "sensational, sweeping statements before actually seeing our products and playing with them."
"The problem is that these people, being in the Valley, they don’t have access to any of our products. They’ve never played with a Xiaomi device before, they’ve never seen it, they read about it but they don’t actually play with them."
Barra further explained about the unique feature Xiaomi has put on their product: the MIUI operation system. The OS is said to be a modification of Android and through this feature, Barra emphasized they were not cloning any Apple's product.
Mi4 becomes Xiaomi’s mainstay this year and is provided with a 5-inch screen and 1,920 x 1.080 pixels. Snapdragon processor 801 2.5 gigahertz with 3 gigabytes RAM make up the fastest chipset currently planted on mobile devices.
The phone has two cameras with 13 megapixels for the main camera and 8 megapixels for the front one. The type having internal memory of 16 gigabyte is sold at US$320 or around Rp3.7 million while the one with 64 gigabyte is sold at US$400 or Rp4.6 million.
Mi4 can be ordered online starting July 29 for regions in China.
