TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - International conservation organization for leopard, Panthera, has given award to Indonesia for the country’s success in conserving Sumatran tiger. The award was handed out during the annual meeting ‘Tigers Forever’ in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“Sumatra is the largest area for the tigers. The collaboration between the related parties in Sumatra is very unique,” Alan Rabinowitz, the President and CEO of Panthera, said during the awarding night.
The awards were also given to the Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan, the Lampung Province Government, Environment Minister Balthasar Kambuaya, and the Tambling Wildlife Nature Conservation (TWNC).
Rabinowitz believed that Tambling has become a unique conservation place for the wild tigers that resulted from partnership between government and the private sectors. He further said that Indonesia can be a role model for wildlife conservation around the world.
In the occasion, the Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan promised that there will be no government’s policy that will damage the environment.
“I guarantee that no government policy will damage the environment, although in fact, environmental damages are still happening. The moratorium is extended until 2015 and hopefully the new ruling government will continue it,” said Zulkifli.
