TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Bekasi city administration has estimated that the household waste production will increase by 10 percent during 2014 Ramadhan. The increase may be triggered by the increasing consumption during the fasting month.
"Consumption rate increases leading to an increase in waste production," said Secretary of Bekasi City Hygiene Agency, Hany Siswandi.
Hany believes that the landfills in the city will be able to accommodate the wastes. The waste-depositing zones have been designated for the orderly waste management. However, Hany continued to remind people to deposit their waste in the designated area so that no illegal dumping sites appear.
Bekasi is producing 1,500 ton of wastes per day and there is a potential increase of 1,650 ton per day, according to Hany.
