TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Governor of Bank of Indonesia (BI) Agus Martowardojo said that the recent weakening of rupiah exchange rate is caused by "temporary factors."

“Everything is still conducive,” Agus said on Friday, June 20, 2014.

Those temporary factors, Agus added, were among others global influences, such as economic condition in the US and China and the latest situation in Iraq.

In addition, he said that pressure to the trade of balance and current account also contributed to the weakening rupiah.

Agus further said that the current political situation and the heated competition between two presidential candidates were also other actors.

The corporate sector, Agus said, also contributed to the phenomena, that is the purchase of foreign exchanges to pay debts, dividends and interests.

However, Agus remained optimistic that after the presidential election and the improvement of the global economic condition, rupiah would rebound.
