TEMPO.CO, Miami - Ecuador winger, Antonio Valencia, has apologized to Raheem Sterling after the two seeing red card during a friendly match. The Manchester United winger was sent off for raising his hands to choke Liverpool's starlet Sterling following a fierce challenge.

"I am sorry for the fight with Sterling," said the skipper. "I apologized to the team after the match and the coach."

However, Valencia insisted that he feared for his own safety, especially when the World Cup is only days apart. Previously, Valencia's teammate Segundo Castillo suffered a knee injury during a friendly against Mexico, causing the veteran to almost miss this summer's action.

"When he (Sterling) tackled me, I thought about Segundo Castillo," said Valencia. "He nearly missed the World Cup because of injury and I feared I would too, but thankfully I am OK."
