TEMPO.CO, Pacitan - The Pacitan government, East Java, has prepared four geosites to be assessed by the United Nation Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) team in July. "The geosites that we have prepared are Klayar beach, Gong, Tabuhan and Song Terus caves," said Pacitan's Cultural, Tourism, Youth and Sports Agency chief, Eni Setyowati, to Tempo, yesterday.

The assessment is a requirement for the region in Sewu Mountains that cover Pacitan, Wonogiri (Central Java), and Gunungkidul (Yogyakarta) to be a part of the Global Geopark Network (GGN). The four sites prepared by the local government are more superior to the other 10 geosites in terms of the accessibility of supporting infrastructure.

Nevertheless, Eni said, the national geopark team and the government were unable to get the UNESCO team to assess the four locations since there are other 9 geosites in Pacitan that have been proposed to be included in the GGN.

The nine sites are Pancer Door, Srau, Watukarung, Buyutan, Ngariboyo beach, Basooka, Ngrijangan River, Telaga Guyang Warak and Luweng Jaran.

In order to become a part of the GGN, the government and the public must work hard in preserving those geology assets. "We have prepared spokespersons in each of those tourism spots," said Eni.
