TEMPO.CO, Barcelona – German goalie Marc-Andre ter Stegen will soon wear a Barcelona jersey for the next five seasons after he signed a contract at Camp Nou on Thursday, May 22, 2014.
Barca spent 12 million euroes to bring Ter Stegen from Borussia Moenchengladbach. The Blaugrana fences its new keeper with a clause purchase of more than six times the transfer cost of 80 million euros.
The 22-year-old became the first purchase made by new Barca coach Luis Enrique. Ter Stegen arrived in El Prat airport on Thursday morning local time.
Ter Stegen said he could hardly wait to play for Barca and realized he would assume a heavy task. “Barcelona is one of the largest clubs in the world and is really successful in the past few years. I know which club to arrive in. I love challenges,” he said.
Ter Stegen will replace Victor Valdes, one of Blaugrana’s top players since 2002/2003. Valdes secured five La Liga trophies for best goalkeeper, four of which were won consecutively.
