TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The public still remembers the incident of Commuter Line train which collided with Pertamina fuel tank truck at Bintaro Permai, South Jakarta, on Monday, December 9, 2013, killing nine people and injured 85 others.

After six months, the National Commission on Transportation Safety (KNKT) announced its investigation results. The KNKT’s head of traffic accident subcommittee, Kusnendi Soehardjo, said that several facts were found during the three-month investigation.

The KNKT found that the train cross gate was not closed during the incident. The commission also found that the road was damaged, causing the truck unable to run at a 12.8 km/hour. Additionally, the train operator, Darman Prasetyo, had sufficient time to stop the train.

To prevent the incident from re-ocurring, Kusnendi said the KNKT has provided recommendation to the Railroad Directorate General, the Land Transportation Directorate General, the Jakarta Transportation Agency, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga and PT Kereta Api Indonesia.

"We asked the Railroad Directorate General to improve the train cross gate system in congested traffic areas," Kusnendi told Tempo yesterday.

The KNKT also suggested the Land Transportation Directorate General to focus on the traffic complexity and condition.

"In several areas, high risk transportation industry should establish a safety management system," said Kusnendi.
