Jokowi: Indonesia Needs a Mental Revolution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, Jakarta governor and presidential candidate from the Indonesian Deomcratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), said that Indonesia requires a mental revolution to become a developed country because currently, according to Jokowi, most Indonesians tend to have a negative mindset, which prevents optimal changes.

"One of the most important thing is mental revolution. From negativism to positivism. It is crucial to change [the people's] mindset because we are a big nation," he said on Thursday, April 24, 2014.

According to Jokowi, Indonesia needs a grand policy design for all sectors such as agriculture, health and industry. He said that in implementing policies, Indonesia has to be optimistic and avoid being trapped in negativism.

However, Jokowi refused to explain more about this grand policy. "I will announce it when the time comes," said Jokowi.

In the Editor in Chief Forum two weeks ago, Jokowi revealed his economic vision and said that Indonesia must focus on two sectors: agriculture and energy. Jokowi said that the current government has no priority in agriculture especially in relation to farmers.
