TEMPO.CO, California - Mark Zuckerberg’s ambition to bring WhatsApp to reach a billion users may be realized soon. Two months after Facebook made its largest acquisition on the mobile messaging service, the number of WhatsApp active users has reached 500 million from 450 million in February.

CBS News reported on Thursday WhatsApp announced in a blog post that the active users are growing fastest in countries like Brazil, India, Mexico and Russia.

Statistically, the number of WhatsApp users has increased one million each day, which sets an excellent milestone for a company with only 50 employees.

WhatsApp is currently popular in its home country, the U.S. About 700 million and 100 million video are shared daily on WhatsApp. As a comparison, a popular social media, Twitter, claimed that the number of its users had reached 241 million in 2013. But based on a research, 44 percent of them have never posted anything.

WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum said the application has always been simple. He promised that he would not add features and gimmicks such as games and mobile advertising. The only new feature to be launched soon is voice messaging.
