TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Android has reached a new feat by having more mobile advertising than iOS. According to mobile advertising company Opera Mediaworks, mobile ads in the first quarter of this year in Android are 43 percent, beating out iOS' 38 percent.

However, iOS still generates 52 percent of the total revenue compared to 33 percent for Android.

"Although still trailing iOS in terms of monetization, Android is making slow advancement in that category as well," the report said, noting that in the same quarter last year Android accounted for 27 percent of revenue.

This achievement was made at the expense of BlackBerry and Symbian devices. Samsung’s gadgets lead with 60 percent of ad impressions, followed by LG with 11 percent.

From Android's 43 percent of the market, 41 percent is ads on phones, while of the 38 percent of mobile ad traffic that ends up on iOS devices, 25 percent goes to iPhones, 10 percent to iPads, and three percent to iPod Touch devices.

Most of these ads appeared on entertainment sites. Business and finance content has the highest revenue per impression.

The US dominates the majority of ad traffic, followed by Asia after overtaking Europe in the past quarter.
