TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) urged Islamic political parties to establish a strategic coalition to face the 2014 general elections. This decision was taken after MUI meet with other Islamic organizations today.
"We want all Islamic party leaders to fulfill the mandate and expectation of constituent," said MUI Chairman Basri Bermanda on Monday, April 21, 2014.
Basri wanted Islamic parties to be grateful with the legislative candidate election result. He asked all of them not to ignore support, trust and hope of the voters, and said that Muslim voters yearn for the embodiment of Islamic values in the life of the nation and the state. The results gained by Islamic parties show how Muslims hope for Islamic values in national politics.
MUI also encouraged election organizers to be honest, fair and responsible in counting votes. They expressed concern over chaos in polling stations, money politics and vote buying.
