TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo is satisfied with the Green House project that he initiated with the Green Marunda Hydroponic Farmers. Jokowi said he had to disburse US$37,500 from his own pocket to build the Green House located around Marunda Apartment.
"The money was used for the physical building of the Green House," said treasurer of the project, Sudino, Thursday.
Governor Jokowi has also contributed seeds for the project. Various crops grown in the green house are harvested on a daily basis, generating income ranging "from US$2.5 to US$8.3," said Sudino.
However, the Green House’s productivity is not in a large scale to supply the needs of supermarkets. In the Green House, there are about 18 modules of various vegetables, including red and green lettuces and cabbages.
The income that comes from the sales is managed by the treasurer.
"The money is used to buy nutrition that costs up to US$4. So we don’t need subsidy," said Sudino.
