TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Jakarta Government Apparatus Agency Made Karmayoga, said that the Jakarta governor position is not constrained by fixed office hours such as civil servants (PNS). "[The Governor] is not PNS," he said on Wednesday evening, April 16 2014.

According to Made, the Governor is a public official or state official that is elected through a political process. The Governor nominates himself and then gets elected by the people. This is different from civil servants that must enroll themselves and then be selected by the Governor.

Made claimed that a Governor must be ready to work at all times, meaning that he/she must always ready to serve the people. "A Governor acts as a Head of a Region and there is no holiday," he said.

Due to its political nature, a governor may not have an annual leave like any other government official. If the governor wishes to take a leave, he/she must request permission from the Ministry of Interior Affairs.

Previously, several parties criticized Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo after he took a leave to participate in a political safari to several regions.
