TEMPO.CO , Bekasi - The Bekasi city administration of West Java has promised to grant scholarships to students becoming best graduates in the year’s national exams (UN ).
Bekasi Deputy Mayor Ahmad Syaikhu said the funds for the scholarships would stem from the city’s education agency’s budget. “The scholarship is a reward from the city government and aims at motivating students to do their best,” Ahmad told Tempo , on Monday, April 14 2014.
A total of 29,582 high schools, vocational schools and madrasah aliyah [Islamic high schools] in Bekasi are participating in this year’s national exams from Monday to Wednesday. The number of students taking the exams this year reached 26,950, an increase from last year’s.
According to Ahmad, the city’s best graduates would secure a special path to enroll at state universities and be provided with scholarships. “So we ask that all students be serious in doing the test,” he said.
