TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The People’s Conscience Party (Hanura)’s chief Wiranto said he was not surprised at seeing the results of countless quick-counts placing his party near the bottom of the list.

"This is politics, it is normal to see results below our expectations. I accept this,” the retired four-star general said.

Wiranto said there was nothing wrong with the party’s strategies, adding that all Hanura cadres had done their best prior to the elections. The ex-chief of the Armed Forces, however, remained bullish the votes for Hanura would still increase, saying the “results are not final yet.”

According to the results of a number of pollsters, Hanura only pocketed around five percent of the total vote. Pollsters Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) and the Indonesian Politics Indicator showed Hanura garnered around 5.28 percent while Cyrus and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies indicated Hanura reaped 5.2 percent of the total vote. Exit polls, meanwhile, projected the party only saw 4.8 percent.
