TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - 'Like the Unlike Film Festival' features a number of films about Greek economic crisis. The festival is held in Jogja Village Inn, Yogyakarta.

Founder of Like the Unlike Film Festival, Ruard Wallis de Vries, said movies about crisis in Greece were selected because the filmmakers had worked hard to make the movies despite the monetary crisis and recession that hit the country since 2000. "We are appreciating the filmmakers despite their limitations," Ruard told Tempo.

A 15-minute long film entitled Chamomile screened the film festival. The film tells a story about an old woman surviving the crisis with her husband by living in a small house in a village. When her husband died, she walked alone through thick snowfalls dragging a cart to bury her husband.

The director, Neritan Zinxhiria, did not use any dialogue in the film. He emphasized silence in his movie and featured heartbreaking sound effects and visualizations.

The film was awarded best short movie at the 2013 Greek Film Academy. Chamomile was also awarded the best fiction at the 25th Dresden Filmfest. The film caught judges’ attention since it presented silence and the past living conditions.

In addition to Chamomile, the festival also screened a Greek film entitled Jafar. Directed by Nancy Speetsioty, the three-minute movie tells a story about a Pakistani boy, Jafar, in a hospital. The film won Greek International Short Film in 2011 and was viewed 800,000 times on YouTube.
