TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bekasi Fishermen found a land emerged from the sea forming a new island with two-kilometer length and 15-meter width. The merged-land is located two kilometers from Sederhana beach, Bekasi, and becomes crowdedly visited by people.
A community leader, Runci, explained that the phenomenon occurred for the first time in Bekasi northern coast. He speculated that the land might emerge because floods have carried a large amount of sand materials to the sea.
"It's just my prediction. Whether the sand was carried by floods, I'm not sure," Runci told Tempo on Sunday, February 23, 2014.
The land's surface comprises of black sand and small clams forming a curve line toward the sea. To prevent illegal sand mining, residents put a warning sign banning sand mining for any purposes.
Currently, there has been no explanation yet about the causes of the land emergence in the middle of the sea. Pantai Sederhana Village Chief Karih Nuryanto said that he has not informed Bekasi administration about the phenomenon.
