TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - WhatsApp users have expressed their outrage through social media after the short message service on smart phones had server issues and its service was down for a couple of hours.
The company has to apologize to its customers; merely a couple of days after it was bought by Facebook Inc. for US$19 billion. There was a global server outage for a couple of hours on Saturday evening, February 22.
Its users' outrage was reasonable because the messaging company is depended on by more than 450 million users in the world to send messages. On Saturday at 20:16 local time, via its official Twitter account, the company announced that they were having server issues. "We are working on it and hope to have it repaired shortly," said WhatsApp team. Then, on the same day at 10:48 local time, the company announced that they had dealt with the issue. "WhatsApp service has been restored. We are so sorry for the downtime…," they said.
A number of users immediately sent out complaints, a number of them even joked: WhatsApp team had gone on holiday following their multi-billion dollar deal with Facebook.
It is expected that approximately 70 percent from the total of 450 million WhatsApp users are active users who use the application every day.
