TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Judicial Commission Chairman Suparman Marzuki has expressed his disappointment as three judge candidates for the Supreme Court have been rejected by the House of Representatives (DPR). Suparman stated the rejection would affect the Supreme Court’s performance as the institution has been lacking of judges.
"The decision process at the House was too plain to conclude the three candidates were unqualified," said Suparman yesterday.
In addition, they were screened among 60 candidates with a very strict selection system.
"It was a lengthy process. It took 6 month and costed US$250,000," said Suparman.
According to him, in addition to medical tests, psychological tests, self-assessments, and interviews by experts of Supreme Court judges, the candidates had been undergone probes. One aspect being probed was the integrity.
"We have investigated their track records. They were the best," he said.
As the result of the rejection, the Judicial Commission will reopen the vacancy at the Supreme Court for another selection.
