TEMPO.CO , Cairo - Egypt’s interim President Adly Mansour, announced that Egypt would hold presidential election before the parliamentary election. Adly stated that he wanted to change the political road map that was previously laid out after the military ousted President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
The change could open up a path for General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to win as the next president.
The previous road map called for parliamentary elections first, but many of Egypt's political parties said they would not be ready for elections this season.
"Most of the political forces demanded presidential elections first," Mansour said in a televised address, "and I have amended the [political] road map to meet their demands."
The president did not announce an exact date for the election because it is the job for the High Elections Commission. Elections can be held more or less 90 days after the president signed the consitution, which predicted to be scheduled in April 2014. AL JAZEERA | CHOIRUL
