TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - The Surabaya government has provided low-cost apartments to people who are working in Surabaya. Surabaya Mayor, Tri Risma Harini, hoped that those workers, who had difficulty in renting house due to their mediocre incomes, could live in the state apartments.

"We have to closely survey families who can live in the apartments. We are prioritizing those who need them urgently," she said yesterday.

The cost of renting the apartments is only Rp50,000 per month or Rp600,000 per year. By providing these apartments, she hoped there would be no workers who had to commute between cities every day. "It’s a pity if their wages ran out due to transportation," she said.

There are seven low-cost apartments that have been developed in 2013, and six blocks will be developed next year. The number of existing employees will be verified later. Regarding requirements, the workers who will be living in the apartments are required to reside in Surabaya. If they have not yet, they have to convert their family cards to Surabaya family cards.
