TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The closure of four inner-city tollgates trial has been stopped. Jakarta Police spokesman Senior Commission Rikwanto said that the trial will be stopped starting today. "The closure trial will not be continued temporarily," Rikwanto said last Saturday.
Rikwanto explained that after being evaluated, alternative exit gate's capacity could not contain the traffic from the closed tollgate. The tollgate closure only moved traffic congestion to the next exit gate. "Many people complained to us," he said.
The trial was previously conducted from Monday to Wednesday last week. The closed tollgates were Semanggi 1 tollgate at 16.00-20.00 pm and exit tollgates of Tegal Parang to Kuningan, Pancoran to Tebet and in front of Dharmais hospital, which were closed at 08.00-10.00 am.
The closure was not effective because people could not be persuaded to arrange their departure time. Arranging departure time from happening too simultaneously will help Jakarta Police's Directorate for Traffic and PT Jasa Marga in formulating the distribution of traffic flow.
For that, Rikwanto said, the tollgate closure can only be applied conditionally for now. Later, the open-close system in entrance and exit will not be limited to certain time but based on traffic density.
