TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Britain supports Indonesias proposal to form an anti terrorist consortium. Previously, the European Union, the United States and Japan have stated their commitment to support Indonesia. Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirajuda announced Britains support after meeting with his British counterpart Jack Straw at the Pancasila Building, in Jakarta, on Thursday (9/1). Wirajuda said that during the meeting, he had proposed many matters that British might support, especially the setting up of a Counter Terrorist Unit. What our security forces need in the fight against terrorism needs to be coordinated, especially as regards training and equipment in the setting up of the counter terrorist unit, he said. At the same time, Straw invited 20 specially selected personnel from the National Police elected to join the Counter Terrorist Management training course in Yorkshire, England. Members of the Australian and British security forces will also take part in the training and we will provide specialist instructors for this, he said. Straw said he and Minister Wirajuda discussed bilateral relationship on security affairs. One of the important matters discussed was reforming the police. (Sri Wahyuni-Tempo News Room)
