Indonesian Climber Conquers Nepal's Mount Ama Dablam

TEMPO.CO, Tengboche - Fedi Fianto, an Indonesian hiker and member of the Gapai Tinggi Indonesia team, successfully climbed to the peak of Mount Ama Dablam in Nepal last Friday, November 22. The red and white Indonesian flag waved at the top of the 6,812-tall mountain above sea level at exactly 12.15 pm local time as Fedi rejoiced in his accomplishment.


Fedi revealed that he experienced a shadow of doubt for continuing his journey from Camp 3 as strong cold winds hit him and his team. However, his ersistence grew stronger and he was able to battle through the minus 35 degree Celsius weather.


Fedi climbed along with four of his colleagues, also members of the Gapai Tinggi Indonesia team, who include Taufan Hidayat, Arief Hidayat, Nikk, and Cak Lukik. To conquer the mountain with the technical difficulty of 5, the Gapai Tinggi Indonesia team trained hard for two years.


Ama Dambal was first climbed in 1961 by Mike Gil from New Zealand, Barry Bishop from the United States, Mike Ward from the United Kingdom, and Romanes Wally from New Zealand. The climb was headed by Sir Edmund Hillary, the first climber who managed to reach the top of Mount Everest, along with Tenzing Norgay, in 1953.


Fedi is the second Indonesian climber who has managed to reach the top of Mount Ama Dablam. The first Indonesian climber who successfully conquered the mountain was Alvin Egie from the Himpala Unas team.
