TEMPO.CO , London - A Sumatran tiger cub was found dead in her cage at the London Zoo. Previously, the cub captivated the world with the footage of its birth three weeks ago.
A zookeeper was reported to find the cub drowned in a pond by its cage. He suspected that Melati, the cub's mother, took her to a location not far from the pond.
The Sumatran Tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae ) is a subspecies of tiger indigenous to Sumatera island. The Sumatran Tiger is one out of six tiger subspecies surviving today and categorized as critically endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Its natural population is expected to be around 400 to 500 in the wilderness, mostly in national park at Sumatera.
